Rabbits Stolen From Forest Hill Porch

Have you seen these two rabbits? They are heirlooms that disappeared over the weekend.

FOREST HILL, MD — A woman whose family has dedicated their lives to serving others is asking for someone to help her by returning their cherished rabbits to their Forest Hill home.

Jamie-Lee Thompson Hammer is a registered nurse in Harford County. She was recently recognized as one of the Baltimore area's top nurses of 2017. Her mother is also a nurse, and her father is a retired police sergeant who currently flies the medevac for Maryland State Police.

On Sunday morning, Hammer said she and her husband were leaving home to run an errand when he said: "Where are the rabbits?"

Two large plastic rabbits had been stolen from their front porch in the 2400 block of Fairview Drive sometime Saturday night between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.

The Hammers purchased their first home a year and a half ago and were presented with two heirloom rabbits.

"They belonged to my late grandmother who passed away when I was 16 years old," Hammer said.

They are described as 3 feet high, plastic blow-mold illuminating rabbits. They have her grandmother's address on the back of their heads — "8928 Kilkenny Circle" is written in her handwriting — and they may have her grandmother's last name, "Scott," written on them as well. The rabbits plug in; they have bulbs in their backs and connect to a wire.

"Grandmom would put them on her porch for Easter, and my mother would place hers out, too," said Hammer. "My mother told me she wanted me to have them because she was waiting for the day we tell her she's going to be a grandmother. On that day, she wanted to give us the baby rabbit to match our couple. My mother has a baby rabbit for each of her three children."

The Hammers have filed a police report with the Harford County Sheriff's Office and are contacting local pawn shops. They are asking anyone who may have seen the rabbits to help bring them home.

"I am devastated and heartbroken," Hammer said. "These rabbits are so special, and they belonged to a very special lady. What a world we live in...where even Easter bunnies aren't safe on someone's simple front porch in little Forest Hill, Harford County."

Anyone with information about the rabbits is asked to contact Jamie-Lee Hammer at 410-935-3554 or by email at CakenTime@gmail.com.
