Reddish Pleads Guilty to 2 Lesser Charges at Burglary Sentencing

Abingdon man will appear again in court this spring.

Former Patterson Mill football star Kyle Reddish, 19, was due for sentencing this week in a pair of burglaries in Box Hill. He instead pleaded guilty to two other charges from a separate case.

Reddish admitted to inhaling a harmful substance and failing to stop after crashing into an unattended vehicle on March 9, 2014. He hit a tree, four vehicles and a mailbox in Abingdon, the state’s attorney said while presenting the statement of facts in Harford County Circuit Court.

A jogger who saw Reddish hit a mailbox and a tree found him passed out in the driver’s seat. The jogger tried several times to wake Reddish, who reportedly said he “just did some marijuana” and drove away, according to the statement.

A neighbor watched as Reddish pulled onto Meredith Court and hit four parked vehicles and huffed on something, later found to be an aerosol dusting can, several times as he turned the corner, according to the statement.

Judge Maurice Baldwin told Reddish on Monday in court that he may be sentenced to 60 days total for the inhalant (a misdemeanor) and not stopping at the scene of a crash.

The penalty will be up for review in May when Reddish is sentenced in a pair of burglaries from January 2014, Baldwin said.

Reddish faces first-degree burglary and rogue and vagabond charges in connection with two break-ins in Box Hill in which he got in through doggie doors, according to charging documents. First-degree burglary is a felony charge that carries a maximum 20-year sentence in Maryland.

He left two vehicle doors open and stole $27, two boxes of Virginia Slims and a lighter from one home in the 900 block of Hamburg Drive, charging documents state.

At another residence, in the 2900 block of Craigston Lane, surveillance footage shows Reddish attempting to get into two vehicles, then walking around the side of the house and climbing in through the doggie door, according to charging documents. A motion-detecting alarm went off, so he went back out through the doggie door.

Detectives obtained fingerprints from one of the vehicles on Craigston Lane, which were confirmed to be those of Reddish, according to charging documents.

In addition, one of the victims said her son identified the suspect as Reddish, who had also broken into their home in the past year the same way, charging documents state.

Sentencing was to take place Feb. 23 but was postponed until May 18 at the request of the state’s attorney’s office.

“There are some restitution issues that the state needs to confirm,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Mathias in court Monday.

Reddish went into a treatment program at Phoenix Recovery Center, then moved into a halfway house in York, Penn., where he was employed in a restaurant and working a 12-step program for the past six months, according to letters presented to the judge on his behalf.

“...my client has been doing a good job at treatment,” Christopher Flohr, Reddish’s attorney, said Monday, noting that he hoped that would be taken into consideration at sentencing.

Reddish is a former Patterson Mill football player whose name was in the media after he was charged with rape in September 2011. The case was moved to juvenile court in August 2012, shielding the proceedings from the public.
