Safeway Reopens with New Offerings in Greenbrier Shopping Center

New and improved Safeway supermarket and pharmacy reopened Wednesday in Bel Air.

BEL AIR, MD - Safeway in Bel Air welcomed customers back on Wednesday, following a closure for repairs and renovation after the store's roof buckled in January under a 30-inch snowfall.

Shoppers missed the convenience and the people they knew from their grocery store, said Safeway District Manager Bryan Caudle.

"It's amazing how happy they are," Caudle told Patch, noting how many referred to it as "my store."

In fact, he said, one man showed up with roses for all the cashiers Wednesday morning for the reopening.

Patrons may notice several changes — the store now has a high-end cheese array, fresh-cut vegetables and fruits, spring water infused with fruit, polished concrete floors and new lighting.

Although the store is the same size it always was, removing cutouts from the aisles allowed Safeway to expand its produce section, where customers will find additional organic items, Caudle said.

Also, when the roof was repaired, the ceiling was taken out and store officials seized the opportunity to add lights. "We've brightened the store up," Caudle said.

A grand opening celebration complete with ribbon-cutting and music from local students will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Safeway is located in the Greenbrier Shopping Center at 225 Brierhill Drive. Hours are 5 a.m. to midnight daily.
