Section Of MD 24 To Close For Months In Harford County For Stabilization Project

A half-mile stretch of MD 24 will close for months in Harford County to allow crews to work on a stabilization project.

MARYLAND — Starting Tuesday at 8 a.m., a half-mile section of MD 24 in Harford County will be closed to through traffic until late fall 2024. Only local traffic will be allowed through the work zone.

The section of MD 24 (Rocks Road) between south of Sharon Road and north of Ferncliff Lane near Rocks State Park is part of a slope stabilization project that also will help protect the roadway against erosion. Contractor crews will place diversion devices in the stream to shift a section of Deer Creek about 30 feet to the east and will reconstruct a section of MD 24. The project also includes resurfacing, landscaping and installation of a new guardrail along the northbound side of MD 24.

The $9.5 million slope stabilization work will use barrels and detour signs to guide local traffic through the work zone.
