Sex Offender Pursues Tryst With Undercover Cop Posing As Teen: Maryland State Police
A registered sex offender faces charges after he tried to solicited sex from an undercover cop posing as a teenager, police say.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A 43-year-old registered sex offender from Elkton faces charges after Maryland State Police say he solicited sex via a smartphone app from an undercover trooper who was posing as a child from Harford County.
Scott Dye has been charged with one count of sexual solicitation of a minor and three counts of possession of child pornography.
According to a preliminary investigation, on Oct. 7 a trooper with the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit was informed by an allied law enforcement agency that Dye had an inappropriate text chat with who he believed was an underage female. Dye then had another inappropriate conversation with the trooper, who was posing as a 15-year-old female.

Dye suggested meeting with who he believed was a minor in Bel Air. According to a preliminary investigation, Dye arrived at that location and troopers arrested him at the scene.
