Sunflower Fields Open In Jarrettsville

The sunflower fields are open for visitors.

JARRETTSVILLE, MD — After a rainy summer, the sunflowers are finally coming out. The "opening day" for the flowers generally happens a bit earlier; last year, the sunflower season had ended by the end of September.

"Mother Nature has definitely thrown us a curve ball with all the rain we’ve had, and we have never dealt with this before," organizers wrote on the Sunflowers in Jarrettsville Facebook page.

On opening day this year — Wednesday, Oct. 3 — organizers said that the blooms were about 50 percent open and changing by the minute. Only mother nature knows when they will officially pop.

The ultimate sunflower "looks like a happy little face standing out there in the field," farmer Nancy Rose, who planted the flowers, told ABC 2 News as the sunflower patch officially welcomed visitors.

The field will be open for about two weeks.
