The Special Olympics Torch Run raises funds and awareness annually for the Special Olympics; law enforcement agencies sell merchandise like t-shirts to participate, then donate the money to the cause of helping people with special needs. T-shirts for this year's run may be purchased at the Harford County Sheriff's Office in Bel Air or the Southern Precinct in Edgewood.

The torch is carried across the state to represent hope and support coming together statewide as athletes prepare for the Maryland Special Olympics, which will be from June 9 to 11.
