Family Of 6 Displaced By Townhouse Fire At Harford Commons: Officials

One person jumped from a second-story window to safety from the townhouse blaze in Edgewood, the fire marshal reported.

EDGEWOOD, MD (Updated)— A teen jumped from a second-floor window to safety from a townhouse fire at Harford Commons Friday afternoon, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

At 2 p.m., officials said that an 18-year-old girl discovered the fire at the two-story, middle-of-the-group townhouse in the 400 block of Buxton Court.

The teen left through the front door with a 7-year-old boy, officials said.

A 17-year-old girl also at the home jumped from the second-story window to escape. She sustained a minor ankle injury, for which she was treated at the scene but declined medical transport, authorities reported.

Flames were coming from the first floor of the home when firefighters arrived, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported at approximately 2:15 p.m.

Assistance was requested, and crews from Kingsville, Bel Air, APG and Abingdon responded.

By 2:30 p.m., authorities reported that all visible fire was out, and crews were checking to make sure there were not any hot spots. According to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, nobody was injured.

There was $60,000 in damage as a result of the blaze, according to the fire marshal: there was $30,000 in structural damage, while $30,000 in items inside the home were also lost.

A family of six — a mother plus 3, 7, 13, 17 and 18-year-old children — were displaced, officials said. Harford County Disaster Assistance was helping the family.

The fire marshal continues to investigate the cause and origin of the blaze.
