Trick Or Treat Hours For Halloween 2017 Set In Bel Air

BEL AIR, MD — The official trick-or-treat hours in the town of Bel Air for Halloween are 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Police have issued a cautionary note for families to stay safe this year. Drivers and pedestrians alike should keep their eyes peeled on area roads.

"Research shows that children are four times more likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than any other night of the year," the Bel Air Police Department said in a statement.

Drivers should be prepared to stop for trick-or-treaters, and children should be reminded to stop at all street corners, only crossing at intersections and crosswalks.

The Bel Air Police Department has offered several tips for parents and children to stay safe during Halloween 2017. Here are some of them:

• Parents: Designate a route for kids before they go out. Remind children not to cut through backyards or alleys and only to visit homes with lights on. Ensure children travel in groups, and ask them to check in via phone periodically. Tell kids to call 911 if they have an emergency or get lost. Accompany young children. Inspect candy before children dig in.
• Residents: Turn on porch lights and clear walkways. Keep candles, leaves, hoses, toys and lawn ornaments out of the path. Confine pets so they are not spooked by trick-or-treaters and vice versa.
• Trick-or-treaters: Keep costumes short to avoid tripping, wear masks that don't limit eyesight and use reflective material or flashlights/glowsticks to ensure visibility. Wear emergency identification (name, address, phone number) within Halloween costumes or on a bracelet. Pedestrians should look left, right and left again before crossing the street, continuing looking both ways as they cross.
• Drivers: Slow down and be prepared to give trick-or-treaters a brake.

• Countywide (not in municipalities): 6-8 p.m.
• City of Aberdeen: 5-8 p.m.
• City of Havre de Grace: 6-8 p.m.
• Town of Bel Air: 5-8 p.m.
