Two Teens Rescued from Water in Winters Run: Officials

Young women who had been trapped on a rock required rescue to return to land, Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported.

Two teens were rescued Thursday evening from Winters Run after being swept up by the current while swimming with a group of youths, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

The young women, who got carried downstream, were able to climb onto a rock and call out for help, prompting their friends to dial 911, the fire company reported.

Crews responded to a call for a rescue at 5:49 p.m. on Thursday and within 10 minutes, they had found the teens and subsequently provided them with life jackets to wear while on the rock, according to the fire company.

Members of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company were stationed on one side of Winters Run and Abingdon Fire Company was on the other as a member of the Harford County Technical Rescue Team entered the water on a rope at 6:40 p.m., the report said.

Within four minutes, he had brought the 16-and 17-year-old to shore and was out of the water, according to the report.

The two teens were evaluated by paramedics and found to be uninjured, according to the report.

Winters Run Road was closed between Singer Road and Fashion Way until approximately 7:30 p.m.
