Watervale Road Bridge Project Not on Track

Deadline is pushed back as cold sets in, work continues on bridge.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD -- Two weeks ago crews poured concrete over the deck of the Watervale Road bridge, according to Harford County Public Works officials.

The county anticipates the structure, which travels over Winters Run, will open in April.

“We apologize for this ongoing disruption to nearby residents and commuters who use this road,” public works officials said in a statement last month.

The contractor was supposed to have work completed by the end of 2015.

The first beam of the bridge was laid Nov. 17, 2015, officials said.

While the contractor intends to have the work completed by the end of January, the county estimates it will actually be finished in April due to cold weather.

An estimated completion date of April 4, 2016, is posted on the Harford County website.

Since the contractor has not made the deadline, the county plans “to access liquidated damages,” officials reported.
