What Happens at Harford County's 911 Center?

Department of Emergency Services invites public to Bel Air to find out.

The Harford County Department of Emergency Services recently cut the ribbon on its new emergency operations center in Forest Hill. But what exactly goes on inside its walls?

Two public outreach sessions this weekend are planned—including one at the Bel Air library—to educate the public about the center’s various functions, according to a statement from the Department of Emergency Services.

The one-hour information sessions will cover these topics, the statement said:

  • Harford County 911 Center
  • Emergency Operations and Preparedness
  • Hazardous Materials Response Team function
  • Technical Rescue Team function

Sessions at other Harford County Public Library branches will be held after the first of the year.

“We look forward to holding these forums as a means of providing information and materials to the public, which we believe will help them gain greater understanding of the mission of the department and how we serve citizens throughout Harford County,” Harford County Emergency Services Director Russell J. Strickland said in a statement.

The community outreach forums are free and open to the public.

BEL AIR: Session will be from 2–3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Bel Air branch of Harford County Public Library, 100 East Pennsylvania Avenue.

WHITEFORD: Session will be from 2–3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Whiteford branch of Harford County Public Library, 2407 Whiteford Road.

The focus of both forums is to provide the public with information regarding the duties and responsibilities of the Department of Emergency Services.
