Wife Of Late Senator To Fill Empty Seat In Harford And Cecil

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed Linda Norman to take her husband's seat in the state senate.

The wife of the late Senator Wayne Norman Jr. will take his seat in the Maryland Senate. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced the appointment on Tuesday.

“While we are still shocked and saddened by the news of Senator Norman’s sudden passing, it is our responsibility to make sure that Harford and Cecil Counties are fully represented in our legislature," Hogan said in a statement.

Senator Wayne Norman Jr. died suddenly on March 4. He was 62.

Based on recommendations from the Harford County and Cecil County Republican Central Committees, the governor said he decided to appoint Linda Norman to take his place in the legislature.

"Linda Norman is capable, qualified and connected to the communities that she will be representing..." Hogan said.

For more than 24 years, Linda Norman has served as the office manager for a Bel Air law firm, according to the governor. She's been involved in local politics for more than 30 years, including as treasurer of the Harford County Republican Club, and has worked with The Arc Northern Chesapeake to help those with disabilities find employment.

Said Hogan: "...I have no doubt that she will serve her constituents well in this new role."

Linda Norman was married to Wayne Norman for 42 years. They raised two children, Howard "Chip" Wayne Norman III and Ashley E. Sicher, and recently welcomed granddaughter Adaline Sicher.
