Aberdeen Woman Sentenced In Stabbing, Assault Of Exxon Customer: Harford Co. Prosecution
An Aberdeen woman has been sentenced in the assault and stabbing of an Exxon customer over $10, according to prosecutors.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — An Aberdeen woman has been sentenced after she was convicted by a Harford County jury of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault for her involvement in an assault and stabbing.
The incident happened Oct. 27, 2022, at the Exxon located at 7 N. Philadelphia Blvd. in Aberdeen. Ieshia Smiley, 40, and another person walked up to a woman who was leaving the Exxon. Smiley and her friend confronted the victim about $10, then began attacking the woman with a knife and brass knuckles, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
The woman was stabbed in the head twice, suffered a contusion to her forehead and lost three teeth in the assault, according to the Harford County State's Attorney's Office. The Exxon's video surveillance system captured part of the assault and three knives were recovered at the scene.

Because Smiley had been convicted of two crimes of violence in 2011 and 2020, the prosecution was able to seek a mandatory minimum sentence served without the possibility of parole on the first-degree assault conviction. On that charge, Judge M. Elizabeth Bowen imposed the state's requested sentence of 25 years of active incarceration without the possibility of parole.
On the conviction for conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, at the state's request, Bowen imposed a consecutive sentence of 25 years, all of which was suspended. The total sentence imposed was 50 years with all but 25 years suspended wi1hout parole eligibility. If and when Smiley is released, she will be on five years of supervised probation.

"My administration will pursue maximum sentences on repeat violent offenders whenever possible. Ms. Smiley's sentence ensures that the people of Aberdeen and Harford County are safer than when she was in our community. Mandatory minimum sentences for crimes of violence are a critical tool to prosecutors and necessary to be requested when applicable to preserve our public safety," said State's Attorney Alison M. Healey.
