20 New Krispy Kreme Locations Set to Open

Over the next few years, more Krispy Kreme shops will open in D.C. area.

Krispy Kreme has joined with Monument Restaurants VII of Virginia to open 20 new locations. The company has ownership of Krispy Kreme’s existing Rockville, MD location and will develop the new Southern Maryland, D.C., and Northern Virginia locations over the next few years.

Known for its “Hot Now” light in the store window, Krispy Kreme doughnuts have a loyal following hooked on the fluffy doughnuts covered in a layer of sugary frosting. Long lines are typical for Krispy Kreme store openings and some people even use the doughnuts as hamburger buns.

“My partners and I were attracted to Krispy Kreme not only for the strong brand recognition it already has in this area,” said Tom Horton, a managing partner in Richmond, Va.-based Monument Restaurants, “but also because of its proven history of delivering great quality products, outstanding customer service and a unique restaurant experience to its guests.

Krispy Kreme has opened 850 locations in more than 20 countries, including 260 shops in the United States, since it was founded in 1937.

The Monument Restaurants VII, LLC has developed and sold 90 Five Guys Burgers locations throughout eight states and continues to operate 11 of them.

“We are excited to partner with Monument Restaurants to expand the brand’s presence in the Southern Maryland and Washington DC area,” said Patricia Perry, vice president of Krispy Kreme’s franchise development in the U.S. “Tom Horton and the Monument team bring years of successful restaurant and operating experience, as well as, first-hand local knowledge of this important market.”
