The 23 Items Needed for a Fully-Stocked Kitchen

Nava Health and Vitality Center's Director of Nutrition Ana Goldseker spills on what everyone needs in a healthy kitchen.

Many of us struggle with the archaic and outdated idea that preparing meals is time consuming, laborious and often confusing. But your kitchen sets the tone and energy for your household. And having the right tools makes cooking easy.

Here’s a list of the top 23 must-have kitchen gadgets and supplies:

1. Glass containers. Instead of plastic. Anything from mason jars to clear glass “Tupperware” with plastic lids will do.

2. Stainless Steel and Wooden Bowls. In all sizes. Use the big ones to wash your fruits and veggies.

3. Stainless Steel Slotted Spoons, Ladles, and Big Spoons.

4. Wooden Spoons, Scoopers and Instruments.

5. Spiralizer. Use it for zucchini as a healthy pasta substitute.

6. Grater.

7. Spatulas. In all shapes and sizes. They help you get the last bit of almond butter out of the jar and pour that last bit of sauce out of a bowl.

8. Vitamix. Money well spent. Use it to make soups, dressings, smoothies and more!

9. Press and Seal Wrap. Instead of saran wrap. Much more versatile.

10. Cuisinart Food Processor.

11. Water Filter System.

12. Glass teapot. Ceramics can contain lead.

13. Stainless Steel Cookware. Don’t use non-stick! The protective coating can leach into food and can be toxic.

14. Cast Iron. The perfect non-stick cookware. Cast iron is nearly indestructible! Plus as an added health benefit, they can even add a bit of much needed iron to your diet.

15. Pampered Chef Clay Cookware. With just a little oil and pinch of salt, you can make any vegetable taste amazing.

16. Steel Mesh Colander. For steaming or washing produce

17. Large Wooden Cutting Board Wood is great because it won’t dull your knives.

18. Pressure Cooker. For the best rice ever!

19. Glass Cutting Board. For chicken and fish – easier to clean and chemical free.

20. Chop Wizard.

21. Peeler. Go for the ceramic.

22. Dehydrator. Excalibur brand is a great option.

23. Juicer. Breville or Huron brands are good.
