4 Teens Accused Of Stealing Car At Gunpoint In Bethesda

At least two of the teens are facing charges in connection with an armed carjacking that happened in the 4800 block of Bethesda Avenue.

BETHESDA, MD — Four teenagers were arrested recently in connection with an armed carjacking in Bethesda, authorities said.

According to Montgomery County police, the incident happened on Oct. 19 shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of Bethesda Avenue.

Police said the teens — a 13, 14 and 17-year-old from Silver Spring and a 15-year-old from Prince George’s County — were wearing black face masks when they approached the victim in their car. The 17-year-old took out a gun and demanded the victim's car keys and property, police said.

The victim complied and the teens fled the scene in the stolen car, authorities said.

The vehicle was later spotted near Wisconsin Avenue and Stanford Street by an off-duty police officer. When the officer attempted to stop the car, police said the teens pulled over and ran.

According to authorities, the teens were quickly located and taken into custody.

The 17-year-old was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged as an adult with armed carjacking, armed robbery and other related offenses. Police did not release his name.

The 13 and 15-year-old were taken to the Cheltenham Detention Center, while the 14-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries suffered during the incident. The 14-year-old was arrested on Oct. 22, charged with armed carjacking and armed robbery, and was taken to the Cheltenham Detention Center.
