BCC Senior Wins Wendy's High School Heisman for State of Maryland
BCC Senior Wins High School Heisman for Maryland, and becomes one of 12 national finalists for award to be presented on ESPN on December 19

B-CC Principal Karen Lockard announced at a special senior assembly on November 10 that BCC Senior Patrick Cha has been named the Wendy’s High school Heisman winner for the State of Maryland, and is one of the 12 national finalists.
Wendy’s High School Heisman is a contest designed to honor high school seniors who excel academically, athletically, and in the community. Established in 1994 by the popular fast food chain Wendy’s, the contest names one male and one female winner for each state. Additionally, from the pool of one hundred and two state winners, twelve national finalists are selected each year.
Cha’s has an extremely impressive list of accomplishments. He has maintained a 4.0 unweighted GPA in the IB Diploma Program throughout his time at B-CC and has been instrumental as a player on the B-CC Boys Tennis team, winning Most Valuable Player his freshman year. Cha has been ranked as high as 16th in Maryland and in the top 100 tennis players in the mid-Atlantic. In addition, Cha is an Editor-in-Chief of the B-CC Tattler and has also been published in prestigious news organizations such as CNN, The Baltimore Sun, and The Columbia Journal of International Affairs.

As a member of the community, Cha has been committed to giving back. In addition to teaching basketball to athletes who are intellectually disabled with Special Olympics and volunteering at a local D.C. soup kitchen, Cha is the founder of non-profit NGO, NetBenefitUSA, an organization dedicated to high school philanthropy. His project to help the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing even gained commendation from Congressman Joseph Kennedy.
The national award will be presented during ESPN’s December 19 telecast of the college Heisman Trophy presentation.
