Bethesda Car Theft Suspect Surrenders to Police

A Washington man is charged with breaking into vehicles in neighborhoods along Massachusetts Avenue, River Road and south of Bethesda.

BETHESDA, MD — A Washington, D.C., man has surrendered to police on theft and credit card charges tied to multiple thefts from vehicles across the Bethesda area.

Montgomery County Police last week asked for the public’s help in locating Dwayne Nathaniel Keymist, 31, with a last known address in Washington, D.C. Keymist is charged with felony theft, fraud, identity theft, and credit card offenses.

On Monday, Keymist contacted detectives and turned himself in to face charges he broke into multiple vehicles, many of them unlocked. The thefts from vehicles occurred in recent months in neighborhoods along Massachusetts Avenue, River Road and neighborhoods south of Bethesda to the Washington, D.C. line.

Keymist allegedly stole property, including credit cards, from the vehicles. Police believe he used the stolen credit cards at the Target located at 25 Grand Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg and at other stores in Prince George’s County.

Investigators obtained a surveillance photo of Keymist after he allegedly used a stolen credit card at the Gaithersburg Target store.

Detectives ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of Keymist to call the Montgomery County Police Department’s non-emergency number at 301-279-8000 or to contact the 2nd District Patrol Investigations Unit at 240-773-6726.

Montgomery County Police reminded residents that they can reduce their chances of being a victim of theft by removing valuables from their vehicles and locking vehicle doors.
