Bethesda-Chevy Chase Women's Professional Networking Launches

Awesome Women Entrepreneurs, a networking group for women business owners, has launched a Bethesda-Chevy Chase chapter.

BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE, MD - From Awesome Women Entrepreneurs: Awesome Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a DC- area networking group for women business owners, today announced the launch of its newest chapter: Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Maryland. Headed by Jennefer Witter, CEO/Founder of The Boreland Group Inc, a boutique public relations firm, AWE Bethesda-Chevy Chase’s introductory meeting will be held at The Palisades (4835 Cordell Avenue) on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 6:00 PM. To register: http://evite.me/zrrrePhwZD. Light refreshments will be served.

Open to women entrepreneurs, “the purpose of the initial meeting is to introduce AWE to potential members and inform them of the benefits of belonging to – and participating in – an established professional hyper-local networking organization that contributes to their business success,” says Witter. The introductory meeting is free.

There is a documented need for groups like AWE. According to an American Express OPEN Forum study, more than 1,200 women-owned business groups open each day. However, according to the Small Business Administration, only half of all new businesses survive the first five years, meaning that 50% do not. “We want AWE to become the tool that helps women entrepreneurs create, collaborate and grow businesses for long-term success, ” says Witter, whose own company is more than 14 years old.

The brainchild of entrepreneurs Karen Bate and Evelyn Powers, AWE originally started in Arlington, VA and has grown to five chapters throughout the DC metro area.

“We’re meeting a demand,” says Bate. “AWE offers opportunities to network with like-minded business owners; access multiple business-building opportunities; and expand members’ knowledge through engaging and relevant speakers. Equally important, getting together to share some laughs with women on the same path is fun!”

Bate and Power co-host a weekly show on WERA 96.7 FM in Arlington, VA with a companion podcast, interviewing successful women business owners and community leaders. The two were recently featured on WUSA9 TV’s Great Day Washington regarding AWE’s burgeoning growth: https://tinyurl.com/yav3c3jy.

“One of the reasons AWE has been so successful is that we purposely keep the chapters small and local, and limit the number of members within professional categories, which allows for greater business development opportunities,” says Powers.

AWE benefits include:

  • Weekly interviews with women business owners on AWE Radio/Podcast
  • Monthly Mastermind/Accountability groups
  • Monthly meetings with excellent speakers and networking
  • Private Facebook groups for each chapter
  • Members-only list of all AWE members
  • The AWE Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chapter has already booked several notable speakers for upcoming meetings. They include:
