Bethesda Man Accused Of Stabbing His Parents At Their Home: Police

A Bethesda man accused of stabbing his parents Sunday night was charged Monday with attempted second-degree murder, police said.

BETHESDA, MD — A Bethesda man accused of stabbing his parents Sunday night was charged Monday with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

Joseph Michael Bowers, 24, is accused of stabbing his parents with a knife in the 6500 block of Greentree Road in Bethesda on Sunday, police said.

At about 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, Montgomery County police officers responded to the family’s home for the report of an assault. When they arrived at the home, officers found Bowers’ 62-year-old mother and father outside, both suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Both parents were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.

Detectives later identified Bowers as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was requested. Bowers was found inside his parent’s home and taken into custody at about 5:15 a.m. on Monday without incident, police said.

Bowers was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with attempted second-degree murder, first degree assault and weapons related charges, according to police.
