Bethesda Ranks High In Top 100 Best Places To Live

According to a new set of rankings released by Niche.com, Bethesda places in the top-ten best places to live in Maryland.

BETHESDA, MD — What’s the best place to live in Maryland? That depends on who you ask. According to a new set of rankings released by Niche.com, Bethesda places in the top-ten best places to live in Maryland, coming in seventh place.

A Bethesda resident describes the community as a great place to live. "Bethesda is one of the most wonderful cities to live in in the Washington DC suburbs, it's very close to downtown D.C. Good public and private schools very diverse and open minded people!"

Niche.com gave Bethesda an A+ for Public Schools, an A+ for Good for Families, a B+ for Diversity, an B+ for Nightlife and a B- for Housing.

Chevy Chase was also named #16 on the list of best places to live in Maryland. Chevy Chase scored an A+ for Public Schools, an A+ for Good for Families, a B+ for Diversity, a B+ for Nightlife and an B- for Housing.

A Chevy Chase resident says, "The area where I live is incredible. We have a top education system, and incredible opportunities to explore museums and natural parks. The public transportation system is effective and affordable, making access to Washington D.C. and Virginia easy. Overall the area is growing and developing successful businesses and there are several movie theaters and restaurants within walking distance from residential areas. Overall the place is safe, clean, and supportive of bigger and better businesses."

The suburbs in Montgomery County dominated the rankings released April 17. According to Niche.com, these are the best places to live in Maryland:

  1. North Potomac
  2. Columbia
  3. North Bethesda
  4. Potomac
  5. Ellicott City
  6. Darnestown
  7. Bethesda
  8. Kensington
  9. Travilah
  10. Rockville

Derwood, Olney, Chevy Chase Village, Clarksburg, Cabin John, Poolesville, Damascus, Burtonsville and more also placed on the top 100 list.

To arrive at the rankings, Niche.com took several factors into consideration, such as the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics and access to amenities. Niche created a standardized score for each factor and after weighting each factor, an overall score was calculated, which was again given a new standardized score.
