Bethesda Weekend: Bunnyland Opens, Bethesda Film Fest, Bridal Showcase

BETHESDA, MD — Here are some of the theater productions, live music performances and other weekend activities happening March 18-20, courtesy of the MyMCMedia.org calendar:

Friday, March 18

• The fourth annual Bethesda Film Fest returns to Imagination Stage and features five short documentaries made by local filmmakers. Screenings tonight are at 7 and 9 p.m.
• The Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s production of Becoming Sugar Plum is tonight at 7 p.m. at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville.
• Waverly Street Gallery CityScapes art exhibit features photography by members of the North Bethesda Camera Club and is on display through April 2. Gallery hours today are noon to 6 p.m. Plan to attend the artist talk Saturday at 2 p.m.
• The regional premiere of Marjorie Prime by playwright Jordan Harrison runs through April 10. Tonight’s performance is at 7:45 p.m.
• Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club presents a tribute to Mel Torme by jazz trombonist Eric Felten at 8 p.m.

Saturday, March 19

• Spring must be almost here since Bunnyland is back at Butler’s Orchard in Germantown with lots of activities for children. Opens at 9 a.m. and is weather dependent. Call 301.972.3299 or check Butler’s Orchard website if you have any questions about the weather.
• Youth looking for employment should attend the ‘Let’s Get it Started Youth Job Fair’ at the Silver Spring Civic Building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Kensington Arts Theatre-2nd Stage present Fiddler on the Roof Junior at Gaithersburg Arts Barn at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for children (and their families) 14 and under.
• The Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s production of Becoming Sugar Plumhas performances today at noon and 4 p.m. at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville. Plan to stay for a ‘cast chat’ following the noon performance.

• AFI Silver Theater screens the classic movie ‘The Quiet Man’ with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara directed by John Ford at 3:15 p.m. in Silver Spring.
• The National Christian Choir performs at the First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg to support Gaithersburg HELP at 6 p.m.
• Come out and support Montgomery County’s only professional sports team, The Washington Spirit as they take on University of Virginia in this preseason game at 6 p.m. in Boyds.
• Gaithersburg’s sfz salon series continues with chamber music at Kentlands Mansion at 7:30 p.m.
• Olney Theatre presents Marjorie Prime at 7:45 p.m.

• Musicians Martin Hayes on Irish fiddle and Dennis Cahill on the guitar perform a special St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Montgomery College’s Cultural Art Center in Silver Spring at 8 p.m. Both Hayes and Cahill are leading a master class at 3:30 p.m. if you are interested.
• Smooth jazz band The Avon Lucas Project performs at 8 p.m. at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club.

Sunday, March 20

• The Mermaid Theatre presents Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunnyat The BlackRock Center for the Arts at 10 a.m. and again at 3 p.m.in Germantown.
• Kensington Arts Theatre-2nd Stage’s final performances of Fiddler on the Roof Junior are today at Gaithersburg Arts Barn at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for children (and their families) 14 and under.
• The Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s production of Becoming Sugar Plumhas performances today at noon and 4 p.m. at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville. Plan to stay for a ‘cast chat’ following the 4 p.m. performance.
• The Spring Bridal Showcase takes place at Kentlands Mansion at noon in Gaithersburg.
• The Vocal Workshop graduation concert takes place at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club with two sets at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. today.
• The “Choose Respect” conference for teens cosponsored by the public schools and the Family Justice Center aims to promote healthy dating. The conference runs from 1 – 4:30 p.m. at Richard Montgomery High in Rockville at 1 p.m.
• Olney Theatre presents Marjorie Prime at 1:45 p.m.
