Bicyclist Badly Hurt In Collision With Montgomery Co. Police Car

A bicyclist was seriously hurt after getting hit by a Montgomery County police car in Bethesda Friday night.

BETHESDA, MD — A bicyclist is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after getting hit by a Montgomery County police car in Bethesda Friday night. Police did not immediately release the victim's name or explain what caused the crash.

Around 11:10 p.m., Officer James O'Rourke was driving near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Jones Bridge Road when he hit the bicyclist, police said. O'Rourke was not injured during the collision.

An investigation by authorities is underway. Police ask that anyone with information call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
