Central Farm Markets Celebrates its Opening Weekend and Five Year Anniversary

Central Farm Markets is celebrating Spring with the re-opening of Pike Central Farm Market, April 13th and Bethesda Central's on April 14th. It is also the fifth anniversary of Central Farm Markets.

April in the Washington DC area is a wonderful time to celebrate Spring. The daffodils, tulip and cherry trees are in full bloom, the air is fresh and everyone is gearing up to get back outside again.

At Central Farm Markets we are celebrating Spring in grand style with the re-opening of Pike Central Farm Market on April 13th and the “blossoming” of Bethesda Central’s expansion of the winter market back into a full market on April 14th. This year we also celebrate the fifth anniversary of Central Farm Markets.

It was a mere five years ago that a Sunday market, with less than 20 vendors opened in the parking lot behind the theaters on Elm street. After two years, we outgrew the parking lot and moved onto Elm street. We outgrew Elm street and finally moved to the Bethesda Elementary School parking lot, where, on April 14th, we will open Bethesda Central with over 50 farmers and artisan food producers!

As Bethesda and our reputation for quality local food in the area grew, we were asked to open Pike Central Farm Market as part of the new Pike and Rose community near the White Flint Metro. We will open the Pike market April 13th with over 40 farmers and artisan food producers!

As the farm markets expanded so did our staff. Besides founders Mitch Berliner, Ann Brody Cove and Marketing Director Debra Moser, Jessica Band joined our family last summer as Social Media Director, where she has expanded our reach on over seven social media platforms and has helped to grow our markets’ reputations nationally. This year we have another new addition, Chef Lynn Foster, who will be managing the Pike Central Market and also heading up our new Cook’s Corner program.

Cooks Corner, located at Pike Central Farm Market, is our new initiative for all things food. Chef Lynne, who celebrity chef Carla Hall called “a tall ball of energy and a food force to be reckoned with”, will direct a season full of cooking classes for adults and children, food demonstrations, market food tours, knife skills and small gadget demos and many other wonderful things to help you to discover how to bring the market into your life.

We have planned a full season of wonderful things for you to enjoy including wine tastings, chef demos,  guest bloggers, new Kids Club activities, green product demos, gardening  classes, Yoga classes, great music, special guest vendors and many other surprises .

In addition, we will have our second Annual Oyster Festival, Bake-Bethesda-A Pie Contest, The “Where in the World is Your Red Market Bag?”, contest, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, July Fourth and Labor day fun, visits from Mr. Divabetic from New York City, and of course our annual Halloween Trick or Treat at the market.

Check out our new Website, Twitter, our e-blast, our blogs, our Pinterest boards and our Facebook page to get up to date recipes, event info, gardening and nutrition info and much more.
We want thank you and our great business sponsors for five great years and look forward to celebrating good food, great fun and you, our great community.
