FROM A GOOD IDEA TO A GLOBAL PHENOMENON: MAKING COMMUNITIES MORE AGE FRIENDLY
"FROM A GOOD IDEA TO A GLOBAL PHENOMENON: MAKING COMMUNITIES MORE AGE FRIENDLY" with Dr. Alexandre Kalache,Tuesday, April 16, 2:00-4:00 P.M., Chevy Chase Village Hall. Sponsored by CC@ H.

Chevy Chase At Home invites you to a special M&M program featuring Dr. Alexandre Kalache, former Director of the Aging and Life Course Department at the World Health Organization, and initiator of WHO's Global Movement on Age Friendly Cities. Dr. Kalache will discuss this world wide initiative, which is of vital importance to everyone in our community, tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Chevy Chase Village Hall.
From a pilot study in Rio de Janeiro in 2005 and the launch in 2007 of WHO's Age Friendly Cities Guide (based on similar studies in 35 cities around the world), the initiative has become a global phenomenon. Its focus has been on the features and actions of communities that promote active aging, embracing the diversity of older adults through listening to their voices, and ensuring the support of decision-makers so that the recommendations of older persons are translated into implemented initiatives that are sustainable over years.
Dr. Kalache, a native of Brazil, is the founder and President of the International Longevity Center in Brazil, and Senior Policy Advisor on Global Aging at the New York Academy of Medicine. He has spent the last 40 years combining his medical, epidemiological and gerontological training with research, advocacy and activism on global aging issues.
