Gallery B July Exhibition

Three local artists will be featured in Gallery B's July Exhibition, which will be on display from July 3-27, 2013 with the opening reception held on Friday, July 12th from 6-9pm.

Gallery B is pleased to present its July exhibition, featuring painters Frank Cappello and Gongsan Kim and photographer Bob Elliott. The exhibit will be on display from July 3-27, 2013 at Gallery B, located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E, Bethesda, MD. The opening reception will be held on Friday, July 12th from 6-9pm in conjunction with the Bethesda Art Walk. Gallery hours are Wednesday – Saturday, 12-6pm.

 

Frank Capello is an art and photography instructor at the Lab School of Washington, D.C. His work has been commissioned for the Marriott Marina Hotel in San Diego, CA and the Ritz Carlton hotel in Tysons Corner, VA. His work has been shown at the Lab School of Washington, D.C., Alex Gallery and Gallery A in Washington, D.C. Capello is one of twelve selected artists exhibiting in Tunnel Vision: Art Under the Avenue, a public art initiative that displays the work of local artists in the Bethesda Metro pedestrian tunnel under Wisconsin Avenue. He has a Master’s degree in painting and a Bachelor’s degree in printmaking from the State University of New York, Oswego.

Bob Elliott is an artist and photographer living and working in Bethesda, MD. From an early age, Elliott showed an interest in the arts, particularly drawing and painting, but was always interested in the ongoing application and use of computers. Elliott received his first formal training in art and photography at Rice University while pursuing his degrees in architecture. Following his studies at Rice, he moved to Chicago to practice architecture and worked on a number of significant design commissions under the direct supervision of internationally renowned architect, Helmut Jahn. In 1997, Elliott stopped practicing architecture to pursue a career in real estate in the United States and abroad. He moved back to Bethesda in 2002 and has been working in real estate development. His art has been seen and sold at a number of local shows over the last 10 years. In 2012, Elliott was selected as a Tunnel Vision: Art Under the Avenue artist.

Gongsan Kim is a Korean artist who has been living in the United States since 1997. She earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Art degree in 2009 from the Corcoran College of Art &Design in Washington D.C. She has held five solo shows in Washington, D.C; Annandale, VA; Seoul, Korea and New York, NY. She’s had two-person and group shows in both New York City and Washington, D.C. Kim’s works are in the collection of YWAM/Antioch Institute for International Ministry in Seattle, School of Dream in Korea. Her work has been reviewed in the Ukoreanews, Korea Daily News and Radio Free Asia. She is a member of HanMee Artist Association based in Washington, D.C.

 

The Bethesda Urban Partnership and Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District opened Gallery B in 2011 with the support of Bethesda Place Limited Partnership. Artists and art curators interested in showing their work at Gallery B in 2013 should visit www.bethesda.org for more information and the application for consideration.

 

Gallery B will serve as the flagship of the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District. The mission of the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District, Inc., 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is to create and implement arts and entertainment projects that contribute to the artistic, cultural and economic growth of downtown Bethesda.

 

Bethesda Urban Partnership, Inc. (BUP) is the non-profit organization established by Montgomery County in 1994 to maintain and market downtown Bethesda. BUP fulfills the landscaping and maintenance needs of downtown Bethesda, and creates cultural events and exciting festivals such as the Taste of Bethesda, Bethesda Literary Festival, Bethesda Fine Arts Festival and more. In its 17-year operation, BUP created Bethesda Transportation Solutions in 2000, established the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District in 2002 and took over the management of the Bethesda Circulator in 2006.
