Chef Peter Chang to Open Bethesda Restaurant as Home Base
The James Beard Award-nominated chef will open a new eatery in Bethesda in the spring, which he plans to make his home base, reports say.

BETHESDA, MD — Premier chef Peter Chang plans to make a new Bethesda restaurant site his home base, according to reports.
Chang will set up shop in an 8,000-square-foot restaurant on the ground floor at 4500 East West Highway. Bethesda magazine reports Q by Peter Chang will open in the spring.
Chang already has restaurants at 20-A Maryland Ave. in Rockville, as well as in Arlington, Fredericksburg and several other Virginia locations.

His Szechuan cuisine features dishes including Duck in a Stone Pot, Chicken with Onion & Chili and Dry-Fried Eggplant.
Chang won national cooking competitions in China and had served as chef at the Chinese Embassy before striking out as chef at a series of Northern Virginia restaurants, where he earned die-hard fans. New Yorker writer Calvin Trillin called them “Changians.”

For the past two years, Chang has received a James Beard Award nomination for best chef in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Popular Travel Channel host Andrew Zimmern once said that “many consider Peter Chang to be the greatest Chinese chef cooking in America.” Chang hails from the Hubei Province in China and has traversed the United States cooking his food, but he has since settled down in Virginia.
