Chevy Chase Elementary School Girls Do Good
CCES Girls on the Run Tackle Global Problems Locally
Chevy Chase Elementary School Girls on the Run team have always completed their 2 seasons each school year with a County wide 5k and a Community Service project. For the past few years, they have been partnering with So Others Might Eat (SOME) by making bagged lunches. Over the past 2 years, the girls have made about 2500 bagged lunches for those who need a helping hand.
They wanted to do more. They figured out there are 3 problems they wanted to address:

What to do? The girls decided to partner with our community neighbors, Norman's CSA and SOME. Working with John and Eris Norman, they arranged to join the CSA for the month of May and purchase 4 Jumbo baskets of fresh fruit, veggies and eggs each. The girls and their families worked together to facilitate PU from NCC and drop off at SOME.
The girls got awesome Norman's t-shirts and throughout the summer, Normans will donate their near end of life fresh fruit and veggies to SOME, these awesome girls and their families working together to get this perfectly good produce to SOME.
If only all of us could take a lesson from these 3rd-5th graders who innately understand global problems and come up with local solutions, as well as their desire to find local community partners like Normans CSA and SOME.
Go Girls!
