Christmas Grocery Store Hours in Bethesda

How late can you make your last shopping trip to Safeway, Giant, Food Lion, Harris Teeter and more stores?

BETHESDA, MD — Now is the time to check your recipes and ensure you have all your ingredients for the Christmas feast.

Many regional grocery stores will close early on Thursday, Christmas Eve, and be closed Christmas Day, Dec. 25. That leaves you with CVS and Walgreens for last-minute purchases in many communities.

Here’s a list of holiday hours for several stores, taken from their websites and the Holiday Shopping Hours website:

  • Safeway: Most stores are open on Christmas, Dec. 25. The company says these Maryland stores will be closed on Friday: locations in Walkersville, Frederick, Rockville (Viers Mill Road), Middletown, Phoenix, Easton, and two in Bethesda (Old Georgetown Road and Sangamore Road)
  • Giant: Stores close at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve, pharmacies will close at 6. Some stores will be open 8am-5pm Christmas Day, pharmacies will remain closed. See store for specific hours.
  • Harris Teeter: Stores will close at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24, and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26.
  • Wegmans: Stores close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24, and will be closed Christmas day. Reopening on Saturday, Dec. 26, at 6 a.m.
  • Food Lion: All stores open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.
  • Target: Most stores are open until 11 p.m. on Dec. 24; closed on Christmas, Dec. 25.
  • Walmart: Stores close at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24; stores closed on Christmas, Dec.25.
  • Whole Foods Market: Stores will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24; all stores are closed on Christmas.
  • Costco: Stores open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24; all stores closed on Christmas.
