Concert: Stringed Instruments of Cremona Showcase

A free concert Sunday, Sept. 13 at 4:00 PM features violins, violas, and cellos from Stradivarius' birthplace.

The Potter Violin Company & Washington Conservatory of Music present a free concert on Sunday, September 13 at 4 pm featuring violins, violas, and cellos made by modern instrument-makers from Cremona, Italy - the birthplace of Antonio Stradivarius - at Westmoreland Church, 1 Westmoreland Ave, Bethesda, MD (the intersection of Massachusetts and Western Aves., the border of D.C. and Bethesda).

The concert will begin with a unique performance of J.S. Bach’s Suite No. 1 for unaccompanied cello, each movement performed on a different cello. The concert will highlight favorites for violin and piano including Massenet’s Mediatation from Thais and Fritz Kreisler’s Liebesfreud. Faculty members from the Washington Conservatory and staff members of The Potter Violin Company will collaborate to present Mozart’s String Quintet in C Major, K. 515. The approximately 1-hour and fifteen minute concert will include engaging short commentary about the instruments on which the musicians are performing.

Performers include cellists Drew Owen and Tobias Werner, violinists Steffani Kitayama, David Truscott and Mayumi Pawel, violists David Basch and George Olson, and pianist Jaewon Lee.
