Washington, DC (January, 26, 2015)—DC EDGE, the National Capital Area’s largest synchronized skating program, fielded 11 teams at the United States Figure Skating Eastern Regional Synchronized Championships in Lake Placid this past weekend (Jan. 23-25) and walked away with an unprecedented six gold medals and other medal-winning qualifying performances to lead the way as the sport heads toward its National Championships late next month in Providence, RI. All DC EDGE teams eligible to qualify for Nationals did so, with exceptional performances in Lake Placid. These five teams will now compete in Providence, February 26-28, representing DC EDGE and the Washington Figure Skating Club.
“I’m so proud of all our skaters for this incredible performance in Lake Placid,” said Jenny DeSimone, DC EDGE Director and Head Coach. “They commit a huge amount of practice time to prepare and train, and it is so rewarding to see this kind of result.” The DC EDGE Adult team has won the National Championships two out of the past three years, and is poised to repeat in 2015. Also, as just one example of the teams’ dominance in Lake Placid, the Masters team received first place scores from all 7 judges, a rarity in the sport.

Founded in 2008, DC EDGE has expanded to field a total of 16 Exhibition and Competitive teams. Each team is composed of 12 to 18 women or young girls from across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. Synchronized skating is the fastest growing segment of figure skating nationally. There is currently a movement pushing for Synchronized Skating to be an Exhibition event in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
