Police: Teen Killed In Crash On I-270

A fatal crash on I-270 near Montrose Road Wednesday afternoon involved a box truck and a Buick, Maryland State Police reported.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Police said a 17-year-old from Montgomery County died in a crash on Interstate 270 Wednesday afternoon. He is from Boyds, according to Maryland State Police.

At 3:24 p.m., the teen was driving a silver Buick Century south on I-270 in the left lane when police said he veered onto the left shoulder, for an unknown reason, and hit an unattended white Ford E450 box truck.

The teen was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, authorities said.

Lane closures were in effect until approximately 7:30 p.m. as emergency personnel worked to investigate and clear the crash scene.

PREVIOUS REPORT — One person reportedly died in a crash on Interstate 270 in Montgomery County Wednesday afternoon. A box truck was one of the vehicles involved in the crash, according to Fox 5, which reported the identity of the deceased was not released.

The collision on I-270 south near the exit for Montrose Road was reported after 3:30 p.m., officials said, and six lanes were closed as a result.

The closures impacted traffic on both sides of I-270, north and south.
