Elderly Man thrown out of Tastee Diner

Has Bethesda become a mecca for the rich, young and beautiful?

Sunday morning around 8:00 a.m. this writer was drinking coffee at The Woodmont Avenue Starbucks in downtown Bethesda when an exceptionally opinionated and irritated man came up to her and decided to intrude on her peaceful Sunday morning drinking coffee and not thinking about anything other than what pictures should be taken at The Farmer's Market in Bethesda.

He claimed to have been asked to leave the Tastee Diner moments before by the Chef on duty Sunday morning. His story was all about cheese, apparently the Chef asked him if he wanted cheese on his omelette and the customer, this man answered in such a way that could only be described as rude.

"If I wanted cheese on my omelette I would have said cheese" demanded the irritable customer who was then asked to pay for his oatmeal and leave the premises immediately. He then decided to walk across the street and share this story with about five other Starbucks customers who also felt compelled to immediately leave the Starbucks. This incident, unfortunately, is not fake news. We have seen the dozens of new exclusive and extremely expensive high rise condominiums intrude into the once gracefully built Bethesda and overtake multiple properties for millions of dollars.

Going back to the Tastee Diner there was a conversation with one of the four chefs who witnessed the incident. He was very sorry the incident happened and apparently felt bad for the gentleman who was asked to leave. There was suspicion in the air as the conversation took place and another customer who overheard the conversation basically took an attitude that the press is always wrong.

We residents are already getting stressed out over the rebuilding of Bethesda as it is for the rich only, the young, the wealthy and the beautiful. There is no affordable housing being built in Bethesda and perhaps that is the real issue which probably should be addressed, for Bethesda is becoming like The West Village of New York City back when it was affordable. Three Million dollars for a Condo? That seems incredible, for most of the State of Maryland is quite poor, in fact a condo at Ocean City, Maryland is less expensive than Bethesda.
