Poster works by many great artists help in the recognition of posters as a vital art form and at the same time posters are historical documents depicting society in a wide range of events, trends, political views, and cultural traditions.
You will learn about the history of posters in the newly rich United States during the “Gilded Age”. It is also known as the "Golden Age of American Illustration” and introduced illustrators such as Edward Penfield and Joseph Christian Leyendecker. You will also see the joyful spirit of the time pictured by such British poster artists as Dudley Hardy and the Beggarstaff brothers. And, in contrast, you will see how poster art became an important propaganda tool in World War I.
