Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School’s Theater Arts Program presents the Pulitzer Prize winning comedy, You Can't Take it With You, March 16 at 7:30pm, and March 17 at 2:00 and 7:30pm.
“You Can’t Take it With You”, written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, first appeared on Broadway in 1936 and has been delighting audiences ever since. This charming comedy celebrating non-conformity is the story of the zany and eccentric Sycamore household, presided over by Grandpa Vanderhof, a former businessman who has turned his back on commerce to enjoy life more fully. At the Sycamores', everyone does just what he or she pleases. One member of the household, Alice Sycamore, is in love with wealthy Tony Kirby. When the stuffy and snobby Kirby family comes to the Sycamores' for dinner, the event is a disaster, capped with the arrest of everyone in the household. Ultimately, the Kirby’s are converted and learn that a life lived in the pursuit of happiness, rather than money, is much better spent. And since “You Can’t Take it With You” -- your money to the grave, that is -- you might as well enjoy your life!
