The Fate of Bethesda Landmark Tastee Diner
The owner may be selling the property to Marriott Headquarters for them to build another new high rise building in downtown Bethesda
Words have been circulating around in the last month that the owner of the Tastee Diner, Gene Wilkes, will be selling to the Marriott corporation that wants the property located at 7731 Woodmont Avenue to build their Headquarters and a flagship hotel, they will also be commandeering the parking lot that sits on Woodmont and Old Georgetown for the daytime hours.
Tastee Diner has three locations, one in Bethesda, one in Laurel and one in Silver Spring. They were established in 1935 according to theirwebsite.
Bethesda has become home to to so many high rise condominiums and apartments that many properties are building new living quarters, luxury condominiums and apartments, to support the economic reality that is becoming the new Bethesda. The Bethesda Metro offers residents a way to to travel conveniently to work in Washington D.C. and Bethesda offers a community that is quite charming and full of all the amenities available in a charming setting, and one can pretty much do without a car if they work on a metro line. There are many upscale restaurants, and take-out places, a full night life with theatres and jazz. Movies, and book stores, many shopping boutiques.

We lose a bit of nostalgia when times where different, space was abundant, things were cheaper, apartments were plentiful, and life seems so uncomplicated to the prices that are clearly new and very expensive that are on the horizon now,
