
September 29th marked the 41st Anniversary of the first joint replacement done at Suburban Hospital. That first procedure was performed by Suburban Hospital Joint Replacement Center medical director, J. Patrick Caulfield, M.D.
“Many thanks to Dr. Caulfield for his continued expertise, support and leadership, as well as making Suburban Hospital's Joint Replacement Center one of the busiest in Maryland,” said Robert Rothstein, M.D., Suburban’s vice president of medical affairs.
Suburban Hospital’s Joint Replacement Center, the busiest in Montgomery County, performed a record 1,301 joint replacement procedures in FY13, exceeding projections. Suburban was also recognized as “high performing” in orthopedics by the U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals rankings.

Suburban Hospital is the only hospital in Montgomery County to achieve the Gold Seal of Approval™ by The Joint Commission for its joint replacement program. It is also one of only a few hospitals in the greater Washington, DC region to have achieved certification by The Joint Commission.
