Hanukkah at Pike and Rose, Holiday Light Shows, Salute to Sinatra: Bethesda Weekend Events

BETHESDA, MD — Here are some of the theater productions, live music performances and other weekend activities happening Dec. 11-13, courtesy of the MyMCMedia.org calendar:

Friday, December 11

• Glen Echo’s Holiday Art Show & Sale open today from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.
• The Puppet Co. Playhouse presents The Nutcracker for the 27th year. Performance at 10:30 a.m. in Glen Echo Park.
• The Visual Arts Center Program at Einstien High’s “VAC Revealed” exhibit is on display at Bethesda’s Gallery B from noon to 6 p.m. 22 seniors display samples from the portfolio.
• Brookside Garden of Lights features a walk through the gardens lit up with more than one million lights. Opens at
  5:30 p.m.
• The Sentinel Newspaper’s Excellence in Government Award Ceremony takes place in Bethesda at 5:30 p.m.
• The monthly Bethesda Art Walk takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Several galleries and studios are open, many include demonstrations as well as receptions.
• Gaithersburg Winter Lights display features a 3.5 mile drive through Seneca Creek Park open nightly at 6 p.m.
• The Festival of Lights features 600,000 lights on the grounds of the Temple in Kensington, nightly performances in the indoor theater, Christmas trees decorated in international themes, live-sized outdoor nativity and more. Grounds are open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Lights illuminated at dusk.
• The Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker continues this weekend and is an area tradition in its 27th
  year. Tonight’s performance at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center starts at 7:30 p.m.
• Paul Morella returns to Olney Theatre for his one man adaptation of A Christmas Carol at 7:30 p.m.
• Claire Lynch performs a holiday show at BlackRock in Germantown at 8 p.m.
• Sandy Spring Theatre Group’s production of A Charlie Brown Christmas continues at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn tonight at 8 p.m.
• Olney Theatre’s production of Guys and Dolls continues this week. Tonight’s show is at 8 p.m.

Saturday, December 12

• Hike the Muddy Branch Greenway with Locust Grove park naturalist from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Free with registration.
• Do you have small children ages 6 months to 3 years? If so, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Music Box Series may be of interest. Today’s program, Sleigh Ride features a string quartet playing songs about winter, bells and sleigh rides. Prior to the concert, children explore instruments and activities in the lobby. Performances at 10 and 11:30 a.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

• Adventure Theatre presents A Lump of Coal for Christmas at 2 p.m. at their theater in Glen Echo Park.
• Olney Theatre’s production of Guys and Dolls has two performances at 2 and 8 p.m.
• Olney Theatre presents A Christmas Carol with Paul Morella with two performances at 3 and 7:30 p.m.
• Glen Echo Park’s annual Winter’s Eve celebrates the season with crafts, hot cocoa bar, and special performances. The event begins at 4 p.m.
• Brookside’s Garden of Lights show opens at 5:30 p.m.
• Gaithersburg’s Winter Lights show at Seneca Creek State Park opens at 6 p.m.

• The Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club celebrates Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday with a performance by America’s Got Talent’s Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.
• Sandy Spring Theatre Group presents A Charlie Brown Christmas at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 8 p.m.

Sunday, December 13

• Howard University’s vocal ensemble Afro Blue perform a special holiday concert to BlackRock at 5 p.m. A few tickets remain at this time.
