Mail Truck Lands on SUV; Potomac Woman Dead (Update)

Montgomery County Police say a loaded US mail truck landed on an SUV in a Silver Spring crash. A Wheaton man was injured in the crash.

A Potomac woman died after a United Postal Service tractor-trailer rig full of mail crashed and landed on top of an SUV early Monday in Silver Spring.

The accident happened about 3 a.m. on Cherry Hill Road in front of Orchard Center in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County Police say a 2006 Mack tractor-trailer was eastbound on Cherry Hill Road. A 2012 Infinity EX35 was turning right from Broadbirch Drive onto Cherry Hill Road. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

The mail truck landed on its side on top of the SUV. The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation, police said.

The driver of the Infinity and a passenger were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver, identified as Yesewlek Endihnew Tizale, 24, of the 9700 block of Pleasant Gate Lane in Potomac, died from her injuries at the hospital. The passenger’s name is being withheld until family notifications can be made.

The truck driver, identified as Daniel Charles Free, 48, of the 2600 block of Newton Street in Wheaton, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
