Man Sought Young Models on Craigslist, Charged With Sexual Abuse

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — An Essex man posed on Craigslist as a talent scout for models, and used the online responses to start a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old Montgomery County girl, authorities charge.

Investigators are worried that there are more sexual abuse victims – especially in Baltimore County – who have not spoken out.

Montgomery County Police on Thursday charged Roy David Evans Jr., 31, of the unit block of Woods Court in Essex, with committing sex offenses against a juvenile.

Detectives say Evans and a 14-year-old female victim began a relationship in June 2015 when the girl replied to a Craigslist ad seeking young models.

The online ad encouraged potential models to contact user “Roddanger86” via the social media app Kik. The “Roddanger86” handle was later determined to belong to Evans, police say.

In August, November, and December of 2015, Evans and the victim corresponded with each other and Evans drove to the girl’s home in Montgomery County. Evans engaged in sexual acts with the teen each time they met, police say, and they charge that he was told the girl’s age.

Detectives arrested Evans at his home Thursday on three counts of third-degree sex offense. He was released after posting a $150,000 bond.

Evans has allegedly been posting ads for young models to contact him since 2014, officials said. He used the Kik handle “Roddanger86” and an alias of “Rodney.”

Investigators believe there may be additional victims, particularly in the Baltimore region.
