Person Struck, Killed on Penn Line Tracks (Update)

Police activity temporarily suspended MARC train service Tuesday night from Union Station on Penn Line, MTA says.

UPDATE: 9:35 p.m.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Southbound MARC Penn Line Train 443 struck and killed a person on the tracks Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. just south of New Carrollton near the MD/DC line, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

Tracks, which were closed in both directions for about three hours, were cleared. By 9:30 p.m., trains were operating normally, according to the MTA.

Passengers stuck on board Train 443 had lights and heat, according to MTA.

Passengers waiting to board trains at Union Station were diverted to the Camden Line or the Metro to New Carrollton where they could catch the MARC Train.

Authorities have not released information on what the person was doing on the tracks, or the victim’s identity.
