Marriott HQ In Bethesda To Become Massive Retirement Community

Erickson Living on Tuesday announced its plans to convert Marriott's headquarters in Bethesda into a large senior living community.

BETHESDA, MD — Marriott International Inc.'s global headquarters in Bethesda will be converted into a continuing care retirement community by Erickson Living, according to the company. Marriott is moving to a new $600 million headquarters in downtown Bethesda when its lease expires in 2022.

In a press release, Erickson Living said it plans to redevelop the 775,000-square-foot property into a massive senior living community. The Catonsville-based company acquired Marriott's headquarters at 10400 Fernwood Road in December of 2018, but declined to disclose specific payment details.

"As a thriving urban center, this location provides an ideal opportunity to further expand our service offerings in the State of Maryland, as well as Montgomery County," Erickson Living CEO Alan Butler said. "As a trusted leader in senior housing and health care, we embrace the opportunity to serve communities by meeting the growing demand for senior housing."
