Maryland Sears Store Closing In Latest Round

BETHESDA, MD — Sears has announced yet another round of store closings, less than a month after it slated 150 stores nationwide for closure, including five in Maryland. The once-iconic retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October, but its struggles started long ago.

According to USA Today, the latest round of closings include 29 Sears and 11 Kmarts. The paper reports that the 40 stores will close in February.

When Sears filed for bankruptcy, the retailer announced a list of 142 locations that would be closing by the end of the year.

One Maryland location is included in the latest closures, according to USA Today. The store closing in February is a Sears store at 7103 Democracy Blvd. in Bethesda.

In mid-October, these Sears and Kmart locations in Maryland were listed for closure in the company's bankruptcy filing:

• Bowie Sears, 15700 Emerald Way
• Columbia Sears, 10300 Little Patuxent Parkway
• Oxon Hill Kmart, 6163 Oxon Hill Road
• Prince Frederick Kmart, 835 Solomons Island Road North
• Westminster Sears, 400 North Center Street

Stores will close near the end of the year, the company said in a statement, noting that liquidation sales were expected to begin shortly. Businesses will remain open for the holiday shopping season, officials said.

Locations in Dundalk, Cockeysville and Hagerstown closed in the past year. The Sears at Eastpoint Mall closed in January 2018. The Hunt Valley Sears and Hagerstown Sears closed in summer 2017.

• Waldorf, 11170 Mall Circle
• White Marsh, White Marsh Mall, 8200 Perry Hall Boulevard
