BETHESDA, MD — At least seven people were injured Monday morning in a serious collision involving a landscaping trucking near Georgetown Preparatory School, officials said. Some of the injuries are serious.

According to Pete Piringer, spokesman for the county's fire department, the accident occurred around 9:15 a.m. in the 10900 block of Rockville Pike in North Bethesda.

It is unclear how the crash happened.

Multiple trauma patients are being evaluated by first responders. Due to the number of patients, Montgomery County fire and rescue personnel have declared the collision a "mass casualty incident."

As a result, all southbound lanes of Rockville Pike at Strathmore Avenue were temporarily closed, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.
