Money Flies: Bag Falls Off Armored Truck on Interstate 270

Drivers stopped to snatch cash as it fell from the sky, according to Maryland State Police.

Cash rained over Interstate 270 on Friday morning after a bag of money fell off the back of an armored truck in Frederick County, according to Maryland State Police.

Officers note that numerous drivers quickly picked up some cash and are “welcome to turn in the money at the local barrack.”

The GardaWorld security truck was heading northbound on I-270 near Route 80. Shortly before 8 a.m. when a lock on the side of the truck malfunctioned, causing a door to open and a bag of cash to fall out.

Police say cash went into the air and across the highway. The armored vehicle driver told police he saw several people had stopped on the interstate and got out of their cars to grab some money.

The motorists fled the scene after a fire department official arrived, activating his emergency lights, according to police.

A search of the area recovered just over $200. The total amount lost is not known at this time.

Those who took some of the money and don’t return it could face theft charges if they’re identified, according to police.
