Montgomery County Coronavirus Update: 9,052 Cases, 474 Deaths

As of Wednesday morning, Montgomery County has 9,052 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and 474 coronavirus-related deaths.

BETHESDA, MD — As of Wednesday morning, Montgomery County has 9,052 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and 474 coronavirus-related deaths. That's an increase of 102 positive cases and nine additional deaths since Tuesday.

In recent weeks, the state began counting "probable deaths" — or deaths of individuals who likely were infected, but never tested. Previously, deaths were only counted if they tested positive for the disease.

The county, which is home to roughly 1.1 million residents, has the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 12,446, according to county health officials.

Statewide, there are now 42,323 positive infections and 2,004 confirmed deaths. This is an increase of 777 new cases and 41 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

To date, 173,007 people have tested negative for the disease and 2,993 have been released from isolation.

There are currently 1,410 hospitalized coronavirus patients, statewide. Of that, 539 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to state data, hospitalizations are at its lowest level in three weeks.
