October Events: Town Fete, Walk with Arborist, Play Date in Park
The Town of Chevy Chase has a flu clinic planned, desserts and discussions and more throughout October.

Dining al fresco with neighbors, getting your flu shot, talking about the war on terror: it’s all part of upcoming events planned by the Town of Chevy Chase.
Here’s a look at October events in Chevy Chase.
Sign-Up for the Flu Clinic - MedStar Visiting Nurses
Thursday, October 9, 4 – 7 p.m., Town Hall

- Shots will be administered to anyone nine years of age and up.
- The cost without Medicare Part B is $30.
- Pneumococcal vaccine ($90) is recommended for all adults 65 years of age & older.
- There is no charge if you have Medicare Part B and are not part of a HMO.
- We accept cash and checks. Checks should be made payable to MedStar VNA.
- Mist (nasal spray) is available for healthy people ages 9 through 49 and not pregnant.
- A “high-dose” inactivated vaccine ($55) is available for persons 65 years of age and older.
Please call the Town Office at 301-654-7144 by Friday, October 3 to sign up for the program.
You must sign up to receive a flu shot or pneumonia vaccine.

Breakfast and a Walk with the Town Arborist
Saturday, October 18 - 9 a.m., Town Hall
Join residents at the Town Hall for breakfast with Dr. Tolbert Feather, the Town arborist, followed by his annual walk and talk through the Town. This event gives residents the opportunity to learn more about the Town’s tree canopy. RSVP to the Town Office at townoffice@townofchevychase.org or 301-654-7144.
Fall Fete: Good Eats on Town Streets
Sunday, October 19, 5 - 7 p.m., Town Hall
Stop by the Lawton Center parking lot area for the Town’s Fall Fete. Purchase food from three of Montgomery County’s most popular food trucks. Residents can dine al fresco in the Leland Neighborhood Park, in the Town Hall or can carry out from Go Fish (crab cakes, lobster rolls and fish tacos and other seafood fair), Cap Mac Classic (mac ‘n’ cheese and other gourmet pastas) or Los Lobos Burritos (authentic Northern Mexican burritos.) Drinks and desserts are compliments of the Town with Ben & Jerry’s dishing up ice cream. The Grammy Foundation award-winning B-CC Jazz Band will provide lively background sounds.
Discussion & Desserts: The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria
Thursday, October 23, 7:30 p.m., Town Hall
Join Aki Peritz, Town resident and coauthor of “Find, Fix, Finish: Inside the Counterterrorism Campaigns that Killed bin Laden & Devastated al Qaeda” for a discussion and desserts in the Town Hall on Thursday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. Since earlier this summer, the terrorist group “The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” has made a lightning advance across much of Iraq and now controls an area the size of Great Britain. Where did ISIS come from, what does it wish to achieve -- and should we be concerned? RSVP to the Town Office at townoffice@townofchevychase.org or 301-654-7144.
Play Date in the Park
Saturday, October 25, 9 a.m., Lawton Center Playground
Town toddlers, preschoolers and their families are welcome for a morning of play beginning at 9 a.m. at the Lawton Center playground. We will provide juice boxes, coffee and bagels. Families with infants and older siblings are welcome. RSVP to the Town Office at 301-654-7144 or by email at townoffice@townofchevychase.org.
