Outer Loop Reopens After Fatal Wreck

Truck overturned, causing commute delays in both directions Friday morning.

The Outer Loop on the Capital Beltway has reopened after a fatal truck wreck closed traffic in both directions, complicating the commute for many Montgomery County residents.

Fuel and debris were scattered across the interstate after the tractor trailer crashed through the median and landed on its side near 5 a.m., according to WTOP.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was ejected from the truck in the wreck. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, reports WDBJ.

Inner loop lanes reopened mid-morning, but all outer loop lanes were closed until nearly 10 a.m. as crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.

At 10 a.m., two right lanes were getting by the crash on the outer loop.
