BETHESDA, MD — A pit bull was fatally shot by Montgomery County police after it attacked two women and killed another dog in Bethesda, according to authorities and a report.

Police said officers responded to the 7000 block of Heather Hill Road shortly after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a call about a dog attack. According to police, two dogs charged at a victim dog that was with its female owner.

According to police radio transmissions reviewed by MoCo360, the caller was “screaming on the phone” about her dog being attacked while another woman at the scene was trying to separate the dogs.

One of the dogs then left the scene, police said, while the second continued attacking the victim dog, eventually killing it.

Police did not confirm the attacking dog's breed, but MoCo360 reported it was a pit bull.

According to police, responding officers shot and killed the attacking dog when it charged at them.

Authorities said the attacking dogs reportedly lived in the neighborhood. It was unclear if their owner was present at the time of the incident.
